She decides she needs to find out more about the history of witches and maybe something about her real parents. I've found in other cases, too, that it is often from the perspective of the peripheral cultures that more sense is made of global history. Good and enlightening. What the author did well: Creating a world history that was interesting and had good tie into the current conflict; created an interesting set of characters and used the jump from characters POV between chapters effectively, and finally created a compelling good vs. At 16 years of age, girls are unceremoniously pressed out onto the streets of India, where many find themselves in sexual slavery or domestic servitude. Instead, you will find some very spicy language and some descriptions of her illnesses in India that will leave you both laughing and perhaps running from any adventures of your own! Once again, this serves to show her humanity as she struggles between frustrations and illness and yet intense compassion
