I loved hearing about the early days of NYCB. In particular, the author's description of Mendelssohn's music captures its essence perfectly. However, I feel that it is a true shame that someone hasn't done a groundbreaking work on the Seaboard. This Simpson/Day book has the superior artwork, Morcombe's the better text material, and Pizzey's has the cleaner plates. -- (written by Jack at Avian Review with sample pages, October 2008).
